London to Paris Cycle Challenge

Leeds based businesses GMI Construction Group and Property Consultants Dove Haigh Phillips presented their fundraising efforts to the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust following a recent 300 mile charity bike ride.

The cyclists, Jarrod Best (GMI Construction Group), Mike Dove, Mike Haigh and Mark Nicholson (Dove Haigh Phillips) joined 44 other riders to raise over £7,500 for the local Yorkshire charity.

The challenge organised by ProLogis and is well attended with colleagues from across the industrial property sector geared up to partake. This year saw the cyclists set off from London on 22 September 2010, reaching the Eiffel Tower in Parish three days later. An incredible £60,000 was raised in total for a selection of charities across the UK.

Jarrod Best, Managing Direct, GMI Construction Group, commented: “It was definitely a tough challenge but spirits were high which spurred us on to the finishing line, partiuclarly as it was all for a great cause.”

Mike Dove, Partner, Dove Haigh Phillips, added: “We are grateful to the many people who supported us on this event during which we achieved an average speed of 15 mph!”

The West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, based in Huddersfield, aims to provie care and support for children with life-limiting conditions within the Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield areas of West Yorkshire.

The trust is currently engaging in many initiatives to raise funds to build a children’s respite centre and hospice in Huddersfield.

Gina Fielding, Community Fundraiser for the charity commented: “It is thanks to the local community, thanks to businesses like Dove Haigh Phillips and GMI that we are now in a position to start building our hospice and respite centre. We started our hospice @ home service a couple of weeks ago and are now helping our first families, giving them the support that they so desparately need. We were overwhelmed by the amount raised by the team on their cycle challenge, and cannot thank them enough for their support.”

The cheque presentation took place on Monday 15th November at the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust offices in Huddersfield.
